Telecommuting Success Factors

To make telecommuting succeed, the following issues need to be considered:

•
  Communication
•  Accessibility
•
Nature of the Job
•
Off-site Equipment Issues

•

The Off-site Location
•
Job Performance
•
Teamwork and Cross Training
•
Possibility of Overwork

To ensure that “out of sight” does not become “out of mind:”

Telecommuters should:

•  maintain good relationships with their managers and coworkers,
•  make the effort to stay “visible,”
•  proactively seek out opportunities.

Managers should:

•  continue to give “stretch” assignments,
•  ensure telecommuters receive recognition for accomplishments to the same
degree they would if they were on site full time,
•  coach the employee about job performance and opportunities.
